Las Vegas Comps Guide 2026 — Best Casinos for Comps on the Strip vs Downtown

By Elle Updated June 9, 2026

Las Vegas casinos vary dramatically in how generously they return theoretical loss as comps. Locals casinos (Station, Boyd) reinvest 2–4× the rate of Strip resorts. Downtown sits in between — strong on dining and free play, lighter on luxury room comps. For most visitors, the right strategy is to pick one Strip program for travel-week stays and one locals program for off-Strip value, and concentrate play within each.

Strip vs Downtown vs Locals — Reinvestment Reality

The single biggest determinant of your Vegas comp value isn't which game you play or how big you bet — it's which type of property you give your play to. Strip resorts charge for the experience: rooftop pools, Cirque shows, brand prestige. Locals casinos compete for repeat business and reinvest the difference as comps.

Property TypeTypical ReinvestmentBest Fit
Strip resorts0.15%–0.30%Special-occasion trips, brand experience
Downtown0.30%–0.45%Low-stakes value, dining comps
Locals casinos0.40%–0.60%Frequent visits, repeat play, comped rooms

Frequently Asked Questions

For overall value, Station Casinos (locals) lead the city. For Strip variety, Caesars Rewards is the most useful program. For luxury Strip experience, MGM Rewards. Downtown (Boyd-owned California, Fremont) provides strong value for low-stakes players.

No. Strip resorts have higher production value but lower comp reinvestment rates. Downtown and locals casinos return a far larger share of theoretical loss as comps — typically 2–4× the Strip rate at comparable play levels.

Caesars: ~0.3% reinvestment. MGM: ~0.3%. Wynn: ~0.2%. Station Casinos: ~0.45%. Boyd: ~0.4%. Downtown casinos: ~0.4%–0.5%. These are guidelines; actual rates vary by tier, game, and promotion.

Concentrate within a single program. $1,000 split across five Caesars properties earns you the same as $1,000 at one of them — but tier credits, mailer scoring, and host relationships all benefit from one strong play history.
